About the minorÌý

ÂÌÅ«Ì컨°å's Black Studies minor is an interdisciplinary course of study that addresses the histories, politics and cultures of the African Diaspora – including the Americas, Africa, Europe and beyond. Courses engage many viewpoints and approaches to the field, including black women’s art, the evolution of black musical traditions, histories of colonialism, critical philosophies of race and Afrofuturistic media. Faculty across the university offer dynamic and immersive instruction that challenges students to look beyond conventional narratives and deeply engage with transformative ideas shaping society.

Specifics

The Minor in Black Studies is a perfect complement to any major at the University of Tampa.

• 20 total credit hours
• One to two courses in each of these designated criteria areas: Global Perspectives, Social Science and the Law, Black Arts and Cultures

Students can choose from over a dozen possibilities in fields including art, literature, communication, history, philosophy, psychology and sociology.
