Career Specialties

Samantha Modder works figuratively in pen, collage and digital media to portray larger-than-life Black, female characters taking up space in real and imagined worlds.��

Professional and Community Activities

In her most recent mural series, Modder presents a subjective Black woman's fairytale to process interlocking structures of oppression. Like a storybook turned mural, the installations are digitally manipulated ballpoint pen drawings that follow a Black woman in her nightdress and striped socks in a world made up of only her and her duplicates. The work is an allegory for our contemporary condition, confronting questions of power, exploitation and resistance. Work from this series has been exhibited in museums, galleries and public spaces as part of group and solo exhibitions.��

Recent solo exhibitions include the Tampa Museum of Art (2026), 3S Art Space in Portsmouth (2026), Buffalo Arts Studio (2025), Pratt Munson Art Galleries at the Munson Museum (2024), Catskills Art Space (2024) and the Rockport Center for the Arts, Texas (2024).

Group exhibitions include works at the Sarasota Art Museum (2024), Look Out Gallery at Michigan State University (2023), Dallas African American Museum (2023), ICOSA Gallery in Austin (2022), Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in St Louis (2022). In addition, her works have shown at LA Art Week 2026, Miami Beach Art Week 2023 and Brooklyn's Black Zine Fair 2024.��

Her art has been published in “Thinking through Graphic Design History” by Aggie Toppins (Jan 2025),"A Riot at the United Nations" by Mariame Kaba (Dec 2023) and been featured on the cover of "Black Networked Resistance" by Raven Maragh-Lloyd (Jan 2024).

Modder has served as a Selection Juror for the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, a visiting Artist at the Glazer Children's Museum, and hosted workshops, talks and panels in the local community.����
